Say “I Do” in the Northwoods: Introducing Chippewa Retreat’s Ceremony Venues
There’s a particular kind of magic to a Northwoods wedding—the smell of pine, the light coming low and golden through the trees, the quiet of a lake at the close of day. At Chippewa Retreat, we’ve spent years watching couples begin their forever here on the shores of Lake Manitowish, and we’re delighted to walk you through the three ceremony settings we offer. Whether you’re dreaming of an open lakeside vista, an intimate clearing tucked among towering pines, or a warm indoor space for an off-season celebration, there’s a spot here made for the start of your story.

Lakeside Lawn
Picture yourselves exchanging vows with the serene expanse of Lake Manitowish stretching out behind you. Our Lakeside Lawn faces west over the water, which means it offers something few venues can promise: the most majestic golden hour you’ve ever stood in. It’s the grand option—open, expansive, and built around full lake views—for couples who want the lake itself to be the centerpiece of their ceremony. This lawn is available to our couple who also book out the ground level accommodations overlooking this lawn, the Den and the Lair. They are privately owned and managed by Vacasa. Our wedding coordinator can give you further details.

Pinecrest Lawn
Nestled behind the White Oak Lodge, our Pinecrest Lawn overlooks a back bay of Lake Manitowish and is wrapped in a cathedral of tall pines. It’s a pristine glen of green grass with a glimpse of the water beyond—more private and more intimate than the lakeside, and perfect for couples drawn to the hush of the woods. Where the Lakeside Lawn is grand, Pinecrest is sheltered and quiet.

Red Pine Room
Not every wedding day cooperates with the weather, and not every couple wants to be outdoors. Our indoor Red Pine Room, inside the White Oak Lodge, offers arched ceilings (reminiscent of the hull of an iconic “Woody”), bright windows, and the optional warmth of a wood-burning fire. It comfortably holds up to 100 guests, making it an inviting space for intimate “I dos”—best suited to our shoulder and off-peak seasons, but available year-round should inclement weather impact your day.

What We Take Care Of—and What’s Yours to Design
We provide, set up, and remove the chairs for your ceremony, so that piece is handled. Everything else—florals, arches, aisle décor, and the personal touches that make the day yours—can be brought in and arranged on your own or coordinated through a wedding planning service. If you’d like recommendations, we’re glad to connect you with trusted local florists and wedding planners.
Your dedicated Chippewa Retreat Wedding Coordinator will be on-site to guide you and your wedding party through rehearsal and the celebration itself, keeping everything running smoothly from start to finish.

A Note on Weather
Our Northwoods summers are beautiful, but we always plan ahead. For outdoor ceremonies, we recommend arranging a tent in advance. If the weather ends up cooperating, you generally only forfeit your deposit—a small price for peace of mind.
If you’d rather not rent a tent and rain is in the forecast, we can move your ceremony indoors to the Red Pine Room with 48 hours’ notice, accommodating up to 100 guests. We’re always happy to talk through these logistics with you so there are no surprises.
