Line Cook Application

The White Oak Grill at Chippewa Retreat is looking for hard working, detail oriented line cook responsible for cooking food to the chef’s specifications, setting up stations for menu items, and both plating and expediting service as the head chef specifies . The line cook plays a critical role in delivering high-quality dishes to guests in a timely manner. They ensure the kitchen operates efficiently, maintains hygiene standards, and creates a safe and clean environment and can step in to lead the kitchen in the event of a temporary absence of the head chef. 

Reports to: Head Chef / Kitchen Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Cook menu items according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines. Plate dishes with attention to detail and according to specifications. When prep cook requires assistance, help prepare ingredients for the shift; wash, chop, and measure.
  • Station Setup: Assist prep cook when needed with setting up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies. Oversee all storage and preparation of ingredients for safety and efficiency.
  • Quality Control: Monitor food quality and presentation to ensure consistency. Follow health and sanitation procedures to maintain food safety standards.
  • Efficiency and Speed: Work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals.
  • Maintenance and Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized work area. Clean and sanitize cooking surfaces and utensils regularly. Assist with kitchen cleanup and waste disposal at the end of the shift.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and servers. Assist other cooks and kitchen staff as needed.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations. Ensure compliance with all kitchen rules and policies.

Job Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Previous experience in a similar role for at least 1-2 years
  3. Some experience in a fine dining establishment or in event catering preferred
  4. Understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, and kitchen equipment
  5. Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
  6. Good physical condition and stamina to stand for long periods
  7. Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  8. Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
  9. Ability to show up as a leader in the kitchen environment (under the head chef) and motivate other team members; ability to step into a leadership role in the absence of the Head Chef
  10. Ability to gracefully accept constructive criticism and adjust work practices based on feedback from Head Chef or Manager
  11. Food handler certification preferred

Working Conditions

  • Job will include normal restaurant service as well as scheduled private event service

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools and kitchen equipment.
  • Visual acuity to monitor food quality and safety.
